TPO Trains - Travelling Post Offices - Royal Mail Trains

Heres a great example of the principle of collecting mail from stations on TPO's or travelling post offices. Sadly, most mail is now sent by road but the Nene Valley Railway now has a Travelling Post Office train, shown here on test, bringing together 4 months of effort put in by a small team of dedicated volunteers. Also, the longest TPO set in preservatin consisting of 4 TPO's.

Thanks to 'Bricky89' for posting this great example on You Tube which we're delighted to show here. We are all indebted to the Nene Valley railway and many other railway preservation groups for restoring and maintaining what were once important parts of our history.

Did you know that every TPO had a water boiler or urn for tea making, which was probably the most carefully tended item of equipment on the mail. More little-known fact about TPO's can be found at: http://www.tpo.org.uk/
