Post Office Crowns Under The Spotlight At BPMA
31 October 2008 - Sarah Sharpe

The British Postal Museum & Archive is holding a special event whick looks at the Crowns and ciphers used by the Post Office over centuries. The sessions is a great opportunity for anyone with an interest in postal history, design and typography, to experience postal history first hand, under the expert guidance of the BPMA's curatorial team.

Crowns and ciphers have been used for centuries by the Post Office and reflect and celebrate its Royal origin. BMPA curators will help visitors explore the diversity of the Royal device using objects from the extensive BPMA collections.

This Discover Session has been specially designed for the visually impaired, but is open to all our visitors. There is a charge for this event, payable on booking.

Visitors are advised to bring a packed lunch as there are no cafes or shops nearby. Hellmail editor Steve Lawson, who recently visited the Museum, tells us that if you walk along Grays Inn Road towards Chancery Lane tube station, on the left hand side, theres a cafe which sells tea at a very affordable 60p although he admits its around five to ten minutes walk.

Price for the session:

£6; £5 concessions*; £4 Friends of the BPMA, payable on booking
*Concessionary rate applies to students, unwaged, 60+, members of the Museum Association or the Society of Archivists, Royal Mail staff and registered disabled visitors (accompanying carers attend free). Proof of concession is required on booking. Under 16s attend free.

Booking required. Please call 020 7239 2570 or email info@postalheritage.org.uk to book. Group bookings are welcome.
