Post Denmark is to close its letter sorting centre in Midtsjællands and transfer operations to Copenhagen. The company blamed a decline in letter volumes.

"We are moving the sorting of letters from Midtsjællands in Ringsted to Copenhagen. Declining letter volumes compel us to streamline our operations and by moving the sorting to Copenhagen, we can better utilize our production capacity" said Michael Carlsen, Head of Midtsjællands sorting.

The closure of the centre affects 260 employees but the company said it would, where possible, find other jobs within the company to those employees who wanted to remain with the company.

"It is a sad day for all employees and the area in general. However, we must face the fact that Midtsjællands center is closing and we must now try to do the best we can, with as many as possible continuing to work for Post Denmark" said Tommy Mortensen, President of 3F in Ringsted.

Post Denmark has a total of four mail centers in Denmark. Midtsjællands, Copenhagen, Aarhus and Fredericia. The latter two are not affected by the closure of Midtsjællands letter center.
