Norway has come up with a novel way to boost revenue for its network of Post Offices - Door-to door booze!

In October, Poste Norge will join forces with the Wine Monopoly to provide a postal wine and spirits service. All you have to do is pop into your local post office, select the wine you want and two days later it will be delivered to your door - simple as that.

Line Fredriksen of Posten Norge, told Dagens Naeringsliv of the Norway Post: "We have a country-wide system, at the same time we are always looking for ways of increasing our income. The Wine Monopoly has goods which they want to make available to people throughout the country. Both parties have thought afresh and made an arrangement which includes ordering and distribution. Everything from the rural postman to the post office conter has been covered"

Whether the idea could catch on with other European postal operators remains to be seen but with mail volumes steadily declining each year, we think Norge Poste are on to a real winner here. Norge Poste stands to earn around £300k a year from the deal and customers will have a choice of some 3,500 products.
