Ink cartridges prove that size doesn’t matter

The latest technology for recycling ink franker cartridges is proving good news for the environment and delivering great value to the business community.
This year alone, more than 25,000 cartridges have been saved from landfill and remanufactured thanks to investment by one of the UK’s leading office and mailroom solutions specialists - Totalpost Services Plc.
“Laid end to end, the cartridges would be longer than a line of 227 double-decker buses,” said Totalpost’s Compliance Manger, Bruce Lenton.
Speaking at the start of National Recycle Week, Bruce explained: “Over the years we have saved hundreds of thousands of used cartridges from UK landfill sites, acquiring them from other providers and through the returns policy we operate on all of the cartridges that we distribute.
“Cartridges pose a real problem on landfill sites because they are made up of so many different elements, including plastic, hard plastic pcb circuit boards and copper within the print heads.”
Through specialised equipment at the company’s head-office in Cumbria, used cartridges are put through a comprehensive cleaning and testing process to ensure they are fit for re-use, and are then filled with new ink and sold for a fraction of the price of a new cartridge, but are still just as reliable.
More than 95 per cent of recovered cartridges are recycled.
Bruce added: “This is likely to be a record year for the number of cartridges that we recycle which is great news for Totalpost, for the environment and for our value-focused customers.
“The sale of remanufactured ink cartridges makes up a huge part of our business. The majority of firms are looking at ways to cut back on costs and to be more eco-friendly and using remanufactured ink cartridges allows them to do both.”
Totalpost is the UK’s largest supplier of remanufactured ink cartridges and exports its products to 18 countries worldwide.
